Could NFTs Replace Job Applications and Identity Verification?

What if the entire job application process could be replaced with a single NFT?
Instead of filling out 5 pages of Name, DOB, Work History, Addresses, Criminal Background, References…, what if you could just share an NFT tied to your verified identity—securely stored on-chain and encrypted for permissioned access?
👍 Pros:
- Saves time and admin work (for both applicant and HR)
- Verified credentials = no resume fluff
- Ownership over your own data
- Cross-platform, borderless recognition
- Could help reduce fraud and identity theft if built with security in mind
👎 Cons:
- Feels invasive to some (but… is it really more invasive than your SSN and driver's license?)
- Who controls the data registry?
- How do we ensure privacy and consent?
- Would employers misuse it for bias or surveillance?
We already carry a driver's license, a social security number, and passport IDs—so isn't it just a matter of time before we own our professional and educational identity as a self-custodied NFT?
